Yes. Humans...got really ingenuous about it, though. I mean, look at this tablet. It's thinner than a book, but you can do so much with it...access more than a book's worth--whoa!
[he fumbles and nearly drops it to the floor, illness-clumsy]
[ In a bag outside Sorey's room will be a handful of cloth bookmarks with nowhere as neat stitching and small simple suns instead of hearts. Attached is a tag that says:
To: Sorey I want to thank you. I know you (and your friends) are warm enough to inspire every life you touch.
Hotaru doesn't sign it because she lost the courage to sign her message to Mikleo and since they are roomed together, it'd be weird to sign one and not the other.... ]
It takes Sorey a little bit to figure out who it could have been; he mentally sorts through who would want to thank him enough to send something like this before reasonably narrowing it down to her (Dirk probably doesn't make cute handmade bookmarks, after all). She didn't sign her name, but he still wants to say thank you, so he tucks the bag into his hands and goes in search of her.]
[ Dirk could 3D print some bookmarks? It could be him. You never know.
Hotaru isn't that hard to find, however, if he goes to the library. She's reading one of the horror books that got added to the library in September. ]
[ Hotaru looks up and smiles. She slides a bookmark that doesn't look terribly different from what she gave him (doing a remarkable job of hiding her secret gift-giving ways) to mark her place and closes the book. ]
Hi, Sorey. I have as many seconds as you need. What is it?
I-it's okay! I wasn't sure if it was okay to find you when you hadn't signed it. But I thought it was really sweet of you, so I wanted to properly say thank you. I've never had someone make me a present before just for helping out, so it--meant a lot.
What? Oh. Um. I'm... You should've... [ She's getting really flustered, but she thinks he deserves so many presents. ]
I mean, my problem is kind of... [ She makes a vague hand gesture to mean big and complicated and terrible and weird. She's repeating herself and repeating him, but she's trying to thread her words into something at least kind of linear. ] But you're such a good person, and you did it without asking too many questions, and... it meant a lot to me, too. I can't do a lot, but I wanted to show you that I'm grateful. And we're... we're friends, right?
[ Her last question is very soft, very tentative, like she's scared to even ask it. ]
[Nodding in affirmation, completely confident in his response.]
We're definitely friends. And friends help each other out, no questions needed. I guess...if we're both grateful, then it's fine to leave it at that, right? Because that's what friends do.
[ Hotaru beams. His confidence flips a switch, and she's now more sure of herself, too. Well, kind of, since she isn't completely going to leave it at that. ]
But, um, I do want to show I appreciate my friends... and I see you reading a lot, so I was hoping it'd suit you.
